There are many known causes of headaches and yet they remain a
mystery to the medical profession. There are at least three types of
headaches that can be helped with appropriate therapy.
1. Muscle tension headaches can be relieved by appropriate
stretching and hands on soft tissue techniques. If the source of the
tension can be identified and resolved then many of these types of
headaches can be eliminated.
2. Postural related headaches can be helped by postural
correction. In the presence of restrictive tightness in the head,
neck, and upper back areas the therapist can assist the patient in
relieving tightness so the patient has the option of being in
correct alignment. This can be done with appropriate soft tissue
mobilization, myofascial release and joint mobilization techniques.
3. Chemical headaches happen when the person has an excess of
metabolic and chemical waste in the body or they may be allergic to
certain foods or chemicals. Lymphatic drainage and massage can help
rid the body of excessive amounts of chemical waste.
Cranio-Sacral therapy can be helpful for all of these types of
headaches. This is a very light hands-on treatment that is said to
balance the cranio-sacral rhythm and is said to make micro
adjustments to the cranial bones. There is some debate among medical
professionals as to whether or not this really works. It definitely
has a calming effect on the central nervous system and many patients
experience significant relief with this treatment.
