Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), also known as neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) or electromyostimulation, is the elicitation of muscle contraction using electric impulses. EMS is used for rehabilitation of partially or totally immobilized patients. It can also be effective in relieving painful conditions. It can also be helpful in increasing muscle strength in debilitated muscle tissue.

Iontophoresis (a.k.a. Electromotive Drug Administration (EMDA) is a treatment using a small electric charge to deliver a medicine or other chemical through the skin. It is basically a steroid injection without the needle. It can be quite helpful for small areas of pain and inflammation.
