Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) or Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT) is a type of gentle massage which is used to enhance circulation of the lymph through the body. The lymph system depends on intrinsic contractions of the smooth muscle cells in the walls of lymph vessels (peristalsis) and the movement of skeletal muscles to propel lymph through the vessels to lymph nodes and then beyond the lymph nodes to the lymph ducts which return lymph to the cardiovascular system.

MLD was initially developed by Doctor Emil Vodder. More recently Doctor Bruno Chikly has developed Lymphatic Drainage Therapy which also promotes clearing of the lymph system but using different techniques than the Vodder method.

Besides clearing the lymph system LDT can be surprisingly effective in reducing pain,  decreasing joint swelling, neural mobilization and promoting relaxation.

LDT is an essential component in the treatment of fibromyalgia
